NetTraffic: display network traffic information on the Windows desktop

If you want to find out how fast you are downloading or uploading in Windows, you will notice that it is not really that easy to find out. While some third party programs display those information to you in their interface, Windows itself seemingly does not make available any of those information to you directly.
Windows offers tools that display your network's activity but you need to know where to look. You can open the Task Manager with Ctrl-Shift-Esc for instance and switch to the Networking tab there, or use the Resource Monitor instead which is also highlighting all the processes that use bandwidth currently.
NetTraffic is a free alternative for Windows that you can use to display the bandwidth utilization of a network adapter.
Note: NetTraffic requires the Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0.
It adds a single icon to the Windows system tray that is highlighting if upload or download bandwidth are used currently. When you hover over the icon, the current upload and download speed is listed in a small notification window.
nettrraffic
A click opens the traffic graph that stays there until you click it away again. The always on top graph highlights the upload and download bandwidth in absolute numbers and as a graph. You can disable the always on top nature of the window though if you want with a right-click and the selection of Always on top in the context menu. Here you can also open the program's preferences.
nettraffic preferences
The application uses all network interfaces by default. If you only want to monitor one or some, you can modify that here in the preferences. Here you can also modify the update interval which is set to 1000ms by default and change the colors that are used to paint the chart information on the screen.
The statistics window displays several interesting information. It not only displays the yearly, monthly, daily and hourly bandwidth utilization of the selected network adapters, but also a prognosis and average values.
You need to run the network traffic monitor for a while on the system as the accuracy will increase significantly over time.
The statistics window offers charts as well that you can make use of to display the traffic utilization for a given time frame in the window. Information can be displayed as graphs or in a table, with options to export data into an xml file.

Verdict

If you want to monitor your system's bandwidth over time, then this is one of the tools that you can use for the purpose. If you need information about the bandwidth of individual processes, try NetLimiter Monitor.

How to block people on Google+ from emailing you 7BE3DQXW6U4C

email via google+
One of Google's primary goals, besides knowing more about you than your better half, is to integrate the company's Google+ service into its other services.
Since Google+ is not as popular as Facebook, some say it is a ghost town but that has changed a bit over the past year or so, Google attempts to increase its popularity by making it mandatory for many of the company's other products.
Just recently, Google+ commenting was rolled out on YouTube, the world's most popular video hosting platform, and while Google claimed it would improve the commenting culture on the site, it actually made it worse.
Yesterday the company announced that it has started to integrated yet another feature to make Google+ more appealing to users.
The new Gmail integration means that anyone on Google+ can email you even if they do not know your email address. While your email address is not shared with those people directly, it means that anyone who has a connection to you on the site, meaning has you in their circles, can send you an email without knowing your address.
This works only on the Gmail web client for know and not on other clients (e.g. the mobile app). As long as someone on Google+ has you in one of their circles, they can mail you.
If you have enabled the new Gmail inbox category system, then you will notice that messages from primary contacts, people you have in your circles, land in the primary folder on Gmail. Messages from people that you do not have in your circles land in the social category instead.
If an email arrives, you can decided to block future messages, allow future messages, or report spam and abuse.
The issue
This looks great on paper, as it improves the message sending (even though you could just fire off a private message instead).
We have identified two issues with the new system.
  • First, it is opt-out, meaning that it is enabled by default.
  • Second, since anyone can email you, you may see an increase in spam or other unsolicited emails.
The fix
You can disable the feature on Gmail. To do so, open the settings on the Gmail website. Here you find the new Email via Google+ option which defines which people can email you via your Google+ profile.
The default is set to anyone, which you can change to extended circles (meaning your connections and their connections), your circles, or no one.
If you set the preference to no one, you effectively eliminate the possibility that someone on Google+ uses the new feature to send you an email.
They may be able to contact you in other ways though on the site itself, for instance via the site's own "send a message" feature that you find on profile pages.

Googlewhack trick used to slip junk mail past spam filters

Spammers feel lucky

Advanced features in Google's search engine are being used by spammers to disguise the URLs of spamvertised sites. Hackers have been using Google search functions to hunt for vulnerabilities. Now their peers in the junk mail business are getting into the act, Symantec reports.

Google supports a variety of advanced query words that are capable of narrowing the scope of a search. Spammers have latched onto this functionality as a means to direct an end user to a URL advertising their products or services, without directly pointing at a site. The approach, as with so many in the field of spamming, is designed to bypass junk mail filters.

Symantec came across the technique after coming across spam emails containing a URL that, on casual inspection, resembled a "Google search results" link. However, when clicked, the URL directs surfers to a site selling replicas of expensive watches, pens, and jewelry.The trick worked because a spammer had managed to make a search query that was specific to their website, using an advanced Google search combining the "inurl" and "intext" operators. Next comes the clever part: spammers simulate a user click on Google's seldom-used "I'm Feeling Lucky" button, so that surfers are taken directly to the first result that comes up for the entered search query. As the spammer has designed the query to yield only one result - that of the spamvertised site - surfers are taken directly to a junk-mail-promoted site after selecting what looks like a search result entry.Having designed the trick, it's straightforward for spammers to pump out emails designed to evade junk mail filters. Fortunately anti-spam firms are able to counter the approach, which represents another skirmish in the ongoing war of the inboxes between those developing junk mails and filters. "As usual, spammers keep changing their techniques to defeat the filters," explains Symantec researcher Jitender Sarda. "But on the other hand, we develop new techniques and technology to counter them." ®

How to Extract Email Addresses from your Gmail Folders

Learn how to extract unique email addresses from your Gmail mailbox and export them as CSV files with the help of a simple Google Script.
I have written a little utility – The Sender’s List – that will help you extract email addresses from your Gmail account. You may extract addresses from every single message in your Gmail mailbox or it can sift through emails that are tagged with a particular label (or folder).
The extracted email addresses are saved in a Google spreadsheet that you may either download as a CSV file or you can use that raw list as an input for Mail Merge. If you looking to create an email marketing campaign for your clients who are not in your Google Contacts but have previously communicated with you, The Sender’s List could be a time-saving option.
extracted email addresses
To get started, click here to create a copy of the Google Script. Next, put the name of your Gmail folder in cell A2. You may use Inbox for extracting address from mails that are in your Inbox, Starred for just the important emails or All for processing all messages.
Internally, the script pulls email addresses of senders from messages tagged with a particular label and exports them to a Google Sheet. Since the script needs to track messages that have been processed, it applies a new label to these messages and the default name of this label is Processed. If you wish to use a different name, just replace the value of cell B2.
Now choose the Gmail menu in the Google sheet (see screenshot) and select Initialize. Grant the script access to your Gmail mailbox and then choose RunProgram from the same Gmail menu.
The Google script is now running in the background and, depending on the size of your Gmail folder, may take some time to complete. You may close the Google sheet and it will send you an email once the extraction is complete. The duplicate email addresses will automatically be removed from the final list.
If you wish to extract addresses from another Gmail label, just create a new copy of the blank sheet and repeat the steps. Also, you may choose Gmail->Uninstall to stop the background script from running.

Instagram Users Categorized - So Which Type Are You?

Posted by Noel Mwas Di Proff(facebook profile)
When Instagram reinvented the meaning of photo sharing, I am sure not many of us would have thought that we would discover photographic talents among our friends and family. In addition to taking pictures of everything under the sun, photo-filtering craze had caught on immediately after Instagram was launched. I have friends who, after spending years in their company, do not even have the slightest inclination towards art or photography. And these days the same friends are posting pictures of brightly lit skyscrapers and calling them ‘modern art’. The picture looks good, no doubt, and it also looks like it has been ripped out of 1960 photo album. Thanks to the filters, every single click of the camera turns into a masterpiece!
After some pretty interesting scientific research and data analysis, we have deciphered the mind and pattern behind these pictures. Sifting through a huge stack of Instagram pictures and burying our nose behind data for quite some time, we have been able to identify 10 different user type patterns emerge. These people are almost everywhere, they are among us, they are a part of our lives! They could be your close friends, your next door neighbours, and the old man down the street or your good ol’ colleagues. They could just as well be you. Which type are you anyway?

1. The obsessed Selfie – Always me. Always the same smile

They were the creators of the new term ‘selfie’! They defined and redefined it as well. Regardless of the time of the day or night, you could always spot them posing for their own cameras, smiling their perfect smile, minutely documenting their facial expressions from ‘a-wee-bit-too-close’ angle. You could see them taking a shot of themselves stranded in traffic or posing in front their bathroom mirrors. Well, you might think that the world could do well without selfies, but not everyone has the same sane thoughts like you and me! There is yet another manner in which you can spot these self obsessed selfies, their favorite Instagram filter is Mayfair. There you have it. Are you one among this crowd? Well, you know who you are.

2. The Single Couple - And then they were ‘One’

You might have thought you need a change of glasses soon. Well, you don’t. The next Instagram type is the single couple who, having taken a zillion pictures together, seem like they have merged together. They have taken a picture together on the sandy beaches, on the rooftop bars, in restaurants, on the streets, at birthday parties and well, just about anywhere. Their mutual favorite filter is Amaro.

3. The backpackers – Off they go, yet again!

From the glittering Las Vegas to the imaginary world of Gandalf the White, I am sure these eternal backpackers have traversed the real and the imaginary world! They also manage to take pictures from these vacations as a proof to their interesting and ‘drool-worthy’ live. How do they do it? Where do they actually work? Or do they actually work? Whatever or whoever they, don’t we all hate their carefree life, their perfect bodies, their sprightly smile and their ‘making me green with envy’ lifestyle!

4. The Food Fanatic – Bon Appétit

Is the group next to you in the restaurant busy taking pictures of the food in front of them? They are trying to capture the dishes from every angle before picking up the spoon and the fork? So you have been witness to the existence of the food fanatic. We know they exist but you did not until now, right? The food fanatic just loves food (that was not rocket science exactly) and they also can’t resist taking pictures of food (all kinds) and putting them up on Instagram. This includes every meal they have eaten, every snack, every dessert and every drink they’ve had. And using Nashville filter for their needs is just a piece of cake for them (no pun intended!).

5. The bad bad guy – Hey, I am ‘Bad’!

Selling drugs, doing drugs, brandishing guns and knives, you name it and they do it. They get their 15 seconds of fame the wrong way. Nothing seems to make this guy understand Instagram, real-time communication and public profile! He talks in a very different language and that involves guns and drugs. He also likes the Walden filter.

6. The Café Latte Art Lover – Decorative foam, really?

Latte and art? You think they don’t gel well together? You have to take a look at this guy’s Instagram posts. He loves latte and he finds art in the foam. Every single day he posts photos of the froth on his profile. I have no idea how he does that regularly, religiously and without fail! Besides the decorative foam, he also likes the filter Rise. How very apt and poetic!

7. The eternally dejected guy – Cheer up, will ya!

Friday Fun or even the holidays can’t seem to cheer this guy up. He hates everything about the system, his job, his colleagues and the society. He provides a running commentary of his feelings by posting an array of embarrassing photos of his troublesome childhood! He only seems to like the filter Inkwell!

8. The Dog Lover – You love dogs. We got it!

She loves dogs. She knows that. We know that. The whole world knows that. With the sheer number of times her dogs have been photographed, I am sure the dogs are bored. Anyway she likes her dogs, what more can we say about it? In addition to the dogs, she also likes the filter Hudson.

9. The Flying Machine – Images from the sky

Are you getting a stream of pictures of airplane wings, clouds, skyscrapers, in short, birds’ view of the city landscape delivered non-stop to your timeline? Well, you have been hit by the flying machine. This guy likes pictures taken from the sky. He also likes Brannan.

10. The Bridge Freak – Bridges, bridges and more bridges

Bridges? You might ask. Yes, he likes bridges. Don’t ask me what’s great about them. I don’t know if he lives by bridges or travels on one every day. For all you know, he might be living under one! He captures the unmoving beauty of concrete hanging in mid-air from every angle possible for the appreciation and adulation of others.

These were ten types of Instagram users from the world over. Recognize any of them from your friends, family or colleagues? Or is it you?

An Eye Opening Guide for Bloggers about Link Building

For many bloggers, Link building can be boring, Confusing and waste of time but still, It holds the key in SEO industry. If you are reading this Blog Post, You are either a Blogger or Webmaster. If I am right, You already know the importance of getting First page appearance in Google SERPs(Search Engine Result Pages). It would be interesting for you to know that, a good Link building strategy can bring your blog posts to the first Page of Google SERPs. As a result, You will get huge amount of Organic Traffic which will boost up your earnings. Most of the new bloggers are either not focusing on Link building or using wrong Link building strategies which harms them instead of helping. In this article, I will tell you about Correct and Powerful link building strategies which really works.

What is the meaning of Link Building?

 Since late 1990's, Search engines are using links for measuring the popularity of any website. It means, If your website is getting lots of Inbound links from quality sites, Your chances of getting better position in Google SERPs will increase. Thus, we can define Link building as "A method or strategy to get Inbound links to your site".

Link Building Strategies which doesn’t Work Anymore..

 I decided to write this article because lots of new bloggers are just wasting their precious time in trying Link Building  strategies, which are either out-dated or  doesn’t work anymore. Useless Link Building Strategies are listed below:

1. Link Exchange Method

So many Link Exchange directories are there on internet. Blogger submit their blogs in such directories for getting better ranking in Google. Let's see, How the whole process works- When you submit your link in these directories, They asks you to place their link on your blog first. When you do so, They make your link Live. It means, Their site links to you blog and your blog links to their website. This kind of link is known as "Reciprocal Link" and acts as a mutual link between two websites.

This method doesn't work anymore. Major search engines including google doesn't give importance to Reciprocal linking because it doesn’t reflects the genuineness of any link.

3. Getting Backlinks from Irrelevant Sites

These kinds of mistakes are quite popular and often committed by new bloggers. If you are looking for backlinks, You must concentrate on relevant websites only. If you have a blog Where you write about Technology, getting links from another blog related to fashion will harm you rather than helping. Getting a link from similar site is easy for those blogs, Which focus on a particular niche rather than focusing on large number of topics. That is one of the reason why, I suggest bloggers to focus on a particular niche.

4. Getting a Backlink from a site which has large number of links

Getting a backlink from a site, which is already filled with lots of other backlinks, is quite easy but not helpful at all. For example- If a website has more than 1000 links and your link is one of them, I don't think it will help you.

A backlink is powerful and valuable, if it comes from a page which has few but quality links. So, try to find Quality sites first (Must be related to your site). Once done, Try to get backlink.

5. Getting a No-follow backlink

 Getting a No-follow backlink is like getting nothing because Search engine spider doesn’t follow that link. Normally, Blogger use “no-follow” attribute to link those pages which seems useless to them.

Can I use software for building Links?

 It is a common question, which is often asked by new bloggers because software are known for giving quick results. However, I never recommend any user to use Software for Link Building. I am saying this after noticing that, almost all websites or blogs which uses software for link building are penalized by Google algorithm updates.  If you are focusing on Long term result, Never use Software for Building Links.
Due to this reason, I recommend “Manual Link Building”. Guest Posting in Top blogs is one of the best way of Link Building.

Is it safe to hire an SEO expert who works at lower rate like $5

 If any SEO expert claims that he can bring your site on first page of Google within few days(7 days) and is asking for just $5 or similar amounts, Don’t hire him. I am saying this because there is maximum possibility that, they will use softwares for building links. Manual link building takes time but once done, You won’t be penalized by Google or any Other search engine alogorithms. On the other hand, Link building using softwares gives quick result but you will be penalized during an algorithm updates.

Link Building Strategies which really Works?

 Link building strategies which are really powerful and work are listed below:

1. Guest Posting on Top Blogs

 According to me, Guest Posting on Top Blogs is one of the best way to build links. However,  You must choose only those blogs which are similar to your blog otherwise you won’t get any benefit. Try to find Blogs which has good Domain Authority score and PR first. Once done, Write a quality guest post on that blog.

2. Create Infographics

 Infographics can be really helpful in building links because they are shared by lots of bloggers. If you know about any Infographic, Try to search for it in Google. I am pretty sure that, You will find the same infographic on lots of blogs. In order to build link, Create an Interesting infographic related to your niche and publish it on your blog. At the end, attach the link for sharing the same on other blogs.

3. Conduct Interviews

 Most of the bloggers never notice this fact but Interviews are also a source of building links.  They are shared by other bloggers on their social networks as well which can be really helpful. It means, You are getting Knowledge, Traffic and Backlinks as well. Isn’t that great.

there is alot to learn, subscribe to learn more
thankyou .....

Sites that Pay you for Writing Articles on your Blog (Sponsored Posts)

Sponsored Posts are one of the most popular ways to make money from your blog.Though Google says that Sponsored Reviews or sponsored posts are against their webmaster guidelines, if done with care and a little common sense you can make good money.In this article I have listed some best sites to get sponsored reviews.

Get+Sponsored+posts+today

1.SponsoredReviews.com

One of the old yet very popular site to find advertisers and write sponsored posts on your blog for which you will be getting paid.
  • The bad thing about Sponsored Reviews is they keep 50% commission you generate from every sponsored post as they were acting as a mediator between you and the advertiser.
  • To get quick approval you must have good page rank and alexa rank.

2.PostJoint.Com

Post Joint is a very new network but still there you can find some good number of advertisers who need blogs for sponsored posting.You can signup for this network and get approval for the blog and start getting sponsored posts. This process is a little different, here you have to ask for a price for which you can publish article on your blog. If the advertiser is ok with that price you will get paid.
This is exactly similar to Sponsored Reviews. Not very popular like Sponsored Reviews but you can find good number of advertisers from this site as well.
There are many ways to get sponsored posts which I will be discussing more in future articles.Do let me know if I had missed out any good sites which are worth adding to the above list.

QUICK TWEAK TO FIX BLOG BOUNCE RATE

There are many traditional ways to reduce bounce rates like decreasing the page load time, interlinking the blog posts and many others. But, in this post I am going to share a quick tweak to the Google Analytics code which can reduce your bounce rate dramatically.

How the Normal Google Analytics Code Looks Like:

If you have installed Google Analytics code for tracking the visitors count then below is how the code looks like
<script type="text/javascript">

  var _gaq = _gaq || [];
  _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXXXX-1']);
  _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);

  (function() {
    var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true;
    ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js';
    var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s);
  })();

</script>

Modified Analytics Code:

The below is tweaked code which will dramatically reduce your bounce rate by 60-90%.
<script type="text/javascript">

  var _gaq = _gaq || [];
  _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXXX-1']);
  _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);

  setTimeout(function() {
    window.onscroll = function() {
      window.onscroll = null; // Only track the event once
      _gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'scroll', 'read']);
    }
  }, 5000);

  (function() {
    var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true;
    ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js';
    var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s);
  })();

</script>
Note: All you have to do is change XXXXXXX with your Google Analytics ID which you can find easily from the original code.

The below is a screenshot of the Analytics Report before and after implementing the Tweak:

How it Works?

Google Analytics wait’s till the second event is triggered, that means unless the visitor clicks on other page of your site the visit will be considered as bounce.

What did we do to the code?

We triggered the actual code and did some modification for a fair measure of bounce rate.This code considers only those visitors who left the site within the first 5 seconds.We also added one more parameter to the code, i.e if a visitor scrolls down to read the web page the visit will no more be considered as bounce.

Final Words:

Google Analytics official blog has confirmed that we can adjust the bounce rate to our need and analyse the performance of the site/blog.You can tweak the above adjusted code as well and change the delay time for your own needs.
thankyou.
